Living with the Lid Up
Autor Kari Switalaen Limba Engleză Paperback – 27 feb 2019
Whether they're funny, serious, or intense, stories help us connect with people on an emotional level. I wrote this book because I'm on a personal mission to erase the line between the personal and the professional. I want to show business owners and professionals how sharing their personal stories can help them connect and cultivate relationships with their customers, prospective customers, and employees too. Dale Carnegie, author of the classic business book How to Win Friends and Influence People, said, "When dealing with people, let us remember we are not dealing with creatures of logic. We are dealing with creatures of emotion."
Why stories? Because stories are powerful. Stories connect us to our listeners. Stories are part of what binds us together. We've been telling stories as long as humans have been in existence. Even cavemen likely communicated through story.
When we share our own real-life stories, especially in business settings, people see us as authentic. Do you remember the old adage that people buy from people they know, like, and trust? It's true. Researchers have proven it over and over again. In fact, in the 2014 Harvard Business Review article titled "Why your brain loves good storytelling," neuro-economist Paul Zak revealed the powerful impact stories have on our brains. When we hear stories, our brain releases oxytocin, the love hormone, which inherently helps us connect and build relationships with the person telling the story.
Living with the Lid Up is a collection of stories from my life as a woman, wife, mother of two boys, and entrepreneur. My hope is that after you read it, you'll be inspired to start incorporating stories into your daily business interactions. Once you do, I'd love to hear about the impact it has had on you, your relationships, and your business.
So, grab a glass of chardonnay and get ready to laugh and cry with this inspirational book that explores the power of storytelling.

Notă biografică
Kari Switala lives in Minnesota with her husband, Kevin; her sons, Max and Sam; and her furry-legged sons, Steve and Murphy. She is also the chief creative officer at Wild Fig Marketing, a boutique marketing firm that specializes in business and marketing automation. When she's not writing or working, you'll likely find her at her cabin in northern Minnesota, where she loves paddleboarding with her puggle, Steve; boating with all her boys; and reading books while relaxing on the dock with a glass of chardonnay. She is also wildly passionate about helping others tell their stories, so they can better connect and cultivate more meaningful relationships. She does this by presenting her keynote address, "Figstory," to businesses and organizations throughout the country. Some fun facts: she once rode a cow when she was five, she played volleyball with her intramural college team against prison guards in a maximum-security prison in England, she sang "I Will Survive" with a band in Paris, she hates black licorice and snakes, and she still runs up the basement stairs at Mach speed, because basements freak her out. (You should have seen her do this when she was nine months pregnant-pretty impressive.) Kari loves getting involved and giving back to the communities she serves. She's an active member of several organizations such as Accelerated Global Connections, Association of Women Contractors, Business Network International, Business Women's Circle, and National Association of Women Business Owners.
