Descriere

Written around 1940, but not staged until 1956, this autobiographical work by the Nobel Prize-winning playwright recreates his own family experience, in an attempt to understand himself and those to whom he was tied by fate and love. This is the complete text, with a critical introduction.

Recenzii

"With its meticulous attention to detail and fresh examination of O’Neill’s masterwork, William Davies King’s new critical edition of Long Day’s Journey Into Night is an essential resource for theater artists and scholars alike."— Robert Falls, Artistic Director, Goodman Theatre

"William Davies King’s critical edition is a welcome contribution to the study of a seminal American dramatist."—Donald Margulies

"William Davies King has provided literary analyses, historical background, elucidations of passages in the text, and an annotated bibliography of reference sources, all of which will be invaluable for those studying, teaching, or performing O'Neill's masterpiece."—Jackson R. Bryer, co-editor, The Selected Letters of Eugene O'Neill

"This is a worthy new edition, one that I'm sure will appeal to many students and teachers. William Davies King provides a thoughtful introduction to Long Day's Journey Into Night—equally sensitive to the most particular and most encompassing of the play's materials."—Marc Robinson, author of The American Play 1787-2000

"Long Day’s Journey is O’Neill’s last, most realized play, a grand act of mercy upon his family and his own life.”—Arthur Miller
