Various international organizations have spearheaded recent initiatives aimed at increasing focus on gender issues. These developments have led the FAO s Fisheries and Aquaculture (FI) Department to review its progress in advancing gender equality in fisheries and aquaculture development with an aim of assessing the extent to which the fisheries and aquaculture policies, researches and action projects are oriented towards gender equality and women s empowerment by undertaking a mainstreaming gender in fisheries and aquaculture: a stock-taking and planning exercise.This document is the final report of the stock-taking and planning exercise and contains two outputs arising from the following activities: (1) Consultancy work on a stock-taking and planning exercise on gender mainstreaming in fisheries and aquaculture; and (2) Stock-taking and planning exercise on gender mainstreaming in fisheries and aquaculture. It covers recent developments in gender and aquaculture, and possible solutions to improve women s participation in the fisheries and aquaculture sector."
