Textual editing, particularly that of medieval texts, is the starting point for a good deal of the research carried out in historical linguistics. Editorial methods have an importance reaching far beyond theoretical considerations, and are of interest to scholars over and above those who edit texts. The volume presents the range of methods used (while also taking into account the history of the discipline) as well as a number of case studies.
