Memory's Door from the Present Into the Past: The Fight to Save Our Sons and the Gift That Saved Us

Autor Al Simmons
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 9 oct 2012
My Father had an old guitar that a child couldn't press the strings down enough to get a 'clear sound', but that was challenge that came "early on" in my life- I didn't have a lot of things to attract or detract my attention, as you might note from the Preface and so since I seemed to have been born with a love for music, I Pursued the ability to play the guitar- When I had reached the age of eighteen, I had gotten a "gig" on Saturday night in what was known as "a Saturday Night Dance Hall" - By that time I had learned how to play a steel guitar and also a 'fiddle' enough to play for what was called "Square Dancing" - About two weeks before I was to graduate from high school and into "a man killing hard labor environment" as a future, a fella came by, heard me playing steel guitar, asked me if I would like to become the steel guitar player for his band- You can know it did not take long for me to say yes!! - That waslike a "pleasant dream for one facing a nightmare" insofar as a hard labor jobs were the only thing available - After a little over a year, the Korean War broke out, we folded and went into Military Service - However, playing music professionally had become a part of my life and I have always been thankful for that - During my military service I began 'playing the Spanish guitar' solely, an in later years I played country music, Western Swing, then into ' pop' music (big band tunes) and then into 'progressive Jazz' - And to think it all started when we lived in the "old house" I have drawn the likeness of from memory - That gives you some light into my background and it 'simplicity.'
