Bryan Gould was a New Zealand Rhodes Scholar who became a British diplomat, an Oxford law don, a television journalist, and a leading British politician. He challenged for the leadership of the British Labour Party in 1992 and returned to New Zealand in 1994 to lead a New Zealand university.
