Never Climbed His Mountain

Autor Julian Gladstone
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 dec 2013
At this moment millions of American males are publicly underdressing in femine lingerie. And no, the majority are not gay! Join the author in his disarmingly honest and engrossing journey... Julian Gladstone was born to dominant parents -- a mother, once a sweatshop immigrant, who attained prominence in the fashion world and a father who amassed and squandered fortunes before disbarment. This memoir provides a personal touch of bomber raids over Germany not usually found in wartime narratives. After graduation from Wharton the author takes a fascinating peek into the fantasyland of motion pictures as he rubs shoulders with the stars of post-war Hollywood on his way from Mexico to the New York scene. His musings are especially poignant when pondering crass commercialism while walking down Fifth Avenue on Christmas Eve. His descriptions of visiting, thirty years later, the small hidden chapel in an English countryside bearing witness to those air force buddies left behind; attending High Mass at the Quebec Cathedral; Easter sunrise service in the Hollywood Bowl and stumbling on Big Sur -- will go straight to one's soul. Entering retailing, Julian progressed from specialty stores to so-called "conventional" retailing on to new concepts called discounting and the now vanished catalogue showroom industries -- with all the intrigue, midnight meetings with armed dissidents, sex and politics one would not expect in that brew -- and along the way breeding nationally recognised show dogs and becoming a scratch golfer. Insightful meetings with Sam Walton, founder of Walmart, with Andrew Higgins, creator of the vital landing craft to the war effort and Pedro Armendriz, once the matinee idol of the Spanish-speaking countries, are only a few of the intriguing personages the reader will meet. Once a pre-pubescent child, certain that he was alone in the universe and some sort of pervert, the author firmly believes that the addition to the second edition, a chapter devoted to the diverse world of crossdressing, should help the reader avoid jumping to wrong conclusions. New information brings on-going blogs available to every reader of this memoir.

Recenzii

"Many people have secrets, and we keep those secrets because we believe no one will understand them. "Never Climbed His Mountain" is a memoir from Julian Gladstone as he shares his story of being a lifelong heterosexual cross dresser, attempting to share the story of the many individuals who share this harmless quirk and coping with the pressures they face from society, so quickly labeled as deviants. "Never Climbed His Mountain" is an intriguing and insightful tale of the secret lives of men who may be closer than you think." -- Midwest Book Review, Burroughs'Bookshelf
