Recenzii

This absorbing volume provides great insight into the Arab mediascape, based on critical and empirical research in ten Arab countries. It explores the profound changes culminating in the rise of transnational pan-Arab media, including Al Jazeera, and the flow of media content from the Arab region to the rest of the world. The volume provides an accessible and diverse survey of the Arab media, and an indispensable reference to anyone interested in the shifting media and political landscape in the Arab region.
This book provides a much-needed empirically grounded update on the state of the news media in the Arab world at a time of continuous social and political flux. In detailing the rapid changes, and in some cases, the radical re-configuration, of the Arab news media industry, this book refocuses attention to the potential of the news media as a 'fourth estate' - or an alternative source of political opinion and debate. The book is a valuable resource for scholars and journalists working on the Arab world and its media.
Gunter and Dickinson's book is a refreshingly objective reading of the Media in the Arab countries it discusses. It presents the contemporary state of the media and deepens the reader's understanding with excellent historical, social and political backgrounds. This book is an outstanding example of the great scholarship that results from the collaboration of scholars from the West and the East.
If you want a quick run down on media history of the region, this book will provide it for you.
