Descriere
An old magician arrives in Maplewood, NH, before sunrise on October 1, 1970. Forty years before, he had performed a magic trick in town with disastrous results. He has returned to re-create that trick to rectify the wrong that has haunted him his entire life. When he performs the trick, a crack is opened into another world where a sinister presence awaits retribution for its own evil purposes in a place known as the House of Embers.
Soon after, four boys on the cusp of becoming teenagers notice strange events occurring around town, but no one else seems to notice. Twelve-year-old Ryan Woodson and his friends seek the help of a reclusive pulp horror writer who lives in a boarding house in their neighborhood. The writer, whose fears have kept him from venturing outside in more than forty years, knows that dark things roams in the outside world. It’s what made HB Lothrop stop writing and hide behind the walls of the boarding house and the bottles of alcohol he has delivered to his room. But a new tenant arrives at the home, the old magician, a man Lothrop remembers from a fateful day in 1930 that convinced him to stop venturing outside.
Ryan and his friends try to piece together seemingly unrelated phenomena: a mysterious boy in the woods, a gravestone rubbing that changes, a classmate’s warning about carved Jack O’Lanterns, a science classroom skeleton that shows signs of life, but no one will believe them.
As children go missing in town, the police search for a child abductor. But the boys realize dark forces are at work and find a link to a fatal funhouse fire in the 1920s. If HB Lothrop won’t help them, it remains up to Ryan and his friends to stop the evil on their own before the town faces its doom on Halloween night.

Recenzii
A creepy novel which doesn't rely on gratuitous blood and gore but rather world building to tell. And it's very effective.
Praise for SHADOW FLICKER:
"This is a gripping horror story from an author who deserves a wider audience." - Booklist
"It’s a dark, disturbing treat." Publishers Weekly
"An original, well written horror story, which is sure to scare you or creep you out at the very least! Very well written, with characters written in perfection for this twisted tale! Unique, fun, and chilling to the bone at times! Highly, highly recommend!" - Johnna Whetstone
"This book grabbed me from the start! It had a creepy atmosphere that fit the storyline very well. Must read!" - Naomi Downing
"Shadow Flicker is an intriguing, character driven story with one foot in Eco Horror and the other in Sci-Fi. I loved the descriptions of the island and getting to know it's residents. It is a story of love and desperation and well as greed and fear. The horror creeps up slowly until suddenly it comes crashing in like high tide nearer the end." - Irene Cole
"I read this book almost in one sitting (darn having to go to work) and was captivated right from the first sentence ... This is my first book I’ve read by the author, but it will definitely not be my last." - Michelle Donaldson
"A book that's a blend of genres, horror, mystery, sci-fi and supernatural it was a book I enjoyed to the fullest... This really is a book with a fresh and unique plot. Gregory Bastianelli has done some fantastic world building to make the reader feel like they are transported to Kidney Island with the strange things that are going on." - SharonBeyondTheBooks
