Geography created a well-watered valley in the midst of an often hot, dry region. Ever since the end of the "Ice Age," flocks of migrating waterfowl and wandering herds of grazing beasts gathered here. This drew ancient human groups to this rich hunting ground, intent on utilizing the wealth of the land to feed their families.
