Patient Safety in Clinical Practice: A Diverse Approach to Safe Healthcare for All
Editat de Paul Bukaen Limba Engleză Paperback – 9 sep 2024
Exploring the concept of ‘avoidable risks’ which may be posed to the health and wellbeing of individuals, the public and communities within a given healthcare context, this book explores potential system failures and human factors, while providing an insight into the significance of the relationship between a culture of care and patient safety. It includes chapters on the ethical and legal framework related to patient safety, the equality, diversity and inclusion context, advocacy and empowerment, risk, and human factors as well as accountability and harm. Notably, there is also a focus on two in-depth chapters which explore patient safety in relation to medication management and end-of-life care.
Throughout the book, there are numerous reflection points, examples of case law and illustrative case studies and thinking points to help the reader apply key principles to aid their learning and think critically. Patient Safety in Clinical Practice offers a fresh insight into the link between patient safety and holistic care. It is aimed at nursing and allied health students and professionals, particularly those undertaking study related to assessing and planning care, as well as law, ethics and professional issues.

Recenzii
“This is a well-written book, suitable for students and qualified healthcare professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge and understanding of patient safety. Complexities of law and ethics linked to patient safety are explored in a way that readers will easily understand, I strongly recommend it.”
Ganapathy Ganesalingam, RGN, BSc, PG dip, MSc, Senior Lecturer, University of Greenwich
“Safety is paramount in all aspects of a patient’s journey as they engage with services, in hospital or community settings. The book explores patient safety, risk management and applies relevant ethical, and legal principles. I strongly recommend it for students, professionals in all areas of healthcare practice and research.”
Dr Stephen Joseph, BEd, MBA, RN, RMHN, MNSc, PgDMHN, PhD, Lecturer, University of Essex
“Patient safety is the most fundamental aspect of healthcare and often it’s marginalised groups and individuals who experience poorer outcomes and are exposed to more risks in clinical practice. Therefore, I recommend this book to all students and healthcare professionals to reflect on the content in this book, so we can work towards minimising risk in all clinical environments.”
Dr Andrew Clifton, PhD, MRes, PgDipLTHE, BA (Hons); RN (MH); FHEA, Associate Professor, University of Suffolk
“With a focus on ethical and legal foundations of promoting a safety culture in health and social care, this text is invaluable for professionals, staff and students entrusted with protecting vulnerable people in service provision settings. Using legal, bioethical, and clinical case scenarios to illustrate discussions, and thinking points to encourage personal reflection, issues are raised and explored in an accessible and considered way throughout."
Jim Sumpter, RN, MSc Nursing, Post-graduate Certificate in Inter-professional Education Former Lecturer, University of Essex
