Designers of the environment, including architects, landscape architects and urban designers, often include as one of their goals, the realization of a sense of place. A "place" may be defined as being meaningful, congruent with a purpose. A "sense of place" suggests that the people experiencing or perceiving a place, sense that place through hearing, sight, smell, touch, or memory that one is there, in it, centered or in balance with the place. One becomes aware, perceives, understands or feels a sense of place. This book explores the variety of elements of the environment ranging from historic landmarks and climate to art and culture as well as other aspects considered in the designing of places.
