Pocket Guide to Rheology: A Concise Overview and Test Prep for Engineering Students

Autor Xian Wen Ng
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 20 noi 2019
This pocket guide serves as a supplementary learning resource to help students deconstruct challenging problems in the topic of rheology commonly encountered in engineering examinations, as well as those in related courses such as in the STEM disciplines. The book is organized into a series of 30 problems and worked solutions, with problems written in a format typical of examination questions. This book offers students ample practice in solving problems which will help sharpen their skills in applying abstract theoretical concepts to solving real-life problems. The presentation of detailed and comprehensive step-by-step explanations in each problem will also guide students in the thought process towards arriving at final solutions. The balanced mix of both numerical and open-ended problems in this book ensures students gain a well-rounded understanding of the topic, with the dual ability to handle detailed mathematical analysis as well as relate the significance of desktop problem-solving to the larger real world context.

Notă biografică

X.W. Ng graduated with First-Class Honors from the University of Cambridge, UK with a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in 2011 and was subsequently conferred a Master of Arts in 2014. She was ranked second in her graduating class and was the recipient of a series of college scholarships including the Samuel Taylor Scholarship, Thomas Ireland Scholarship and British Petroleum Prize in Chemical Engineering, for top performance in consecutive years of academic examinations. Ng was also one of two students from Cambridge University selected for the Cambridge-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) exchange program in Chemical Engineering, which she completed with Honors with a cumulative GPA of 4.8 (5.0). During her time at MIT, she was also a part-time tutor for junior classes in engineering, and pursued other disciplines including economics, real estate development and finance at MIT as well as the John F. Kennedy School of Government at HarvardUniversity. Upon graduation, Ng was elected by her college Fellowship to the Title of Scholar, as a mark of her academic distinction.
Since graduation, Ng has been keenly involved in teaching across various academic levels, doing so both in schools as well as with smaller groups as a private tutor. Ng’s topics of specialization range from secondary level Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, up to tertiary-level Mathematics and Engineering subjects. One of her recent publications include a practice book written for students taking engineering courses at university. The book titled “Engineering Problems for Undergraduate Students” contains over 250 practice problems with worked solutions, and stands as an all-in-one, multidisciplinary, problem-solving resource with comprehensive depth and breadth of coverage.
