Progress in Corrosion Science and Engineering I: Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry, cartea 46

Editat de Su-Il Pyun, Jong-Won Lee
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 21 noi 2014
The present volume of Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry is composed of four chapters covering topics having relevance both in corrosion science and materials engineering. All of the chapters provide comprehensive coverage of recent advances in corrosion science. The first chapter, by Maurice and Marcus, provides a comprehensive review on the structural aspects and anti-corrosion properties of passive films on metals and alloys. These authors look at recent experimental data collected by in-situ microscopic techniques coupled with electrochemical methods. A detailed description is given of the nucleation and growth of 2-dimensional passive films at earlier stages, their effect on the corrosion properties of metal surfaces, and the nanostructures of- dimensional passive films. On the basis of the experimental data reviewed, the authors present a model for passivity breakdown and pit initiation, which takes into account the preferential role of grain boundaries. In Chapter 2, Takahashi and his co-workers give a specialized account on the electrochemical and structural properties of anodic oxide films formed on aluminum. In addition to the electrochemical corrosion-related problems of anodic oxide films, the chapter reviews state-of-the-art research of nano-/mic- fabrications based on anodizing treatments combined with chemical/mechanical processes such as laser irradiation, atomic force micro-probe processing and thin film deposition techniques.

Recenzii

From the reviews:
“The recent volume of the series Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry edited by Su-Il Pyun from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Korean Advance Institute of Science and Technology, and Jong-Won Lee from the Energy Group of the Samsung Advance Institute of Technology supplies decidedly a very useful update about topics regarding corrosion science and engineering for the scientific community working on them. The book is divided in four chapters and represents wide interests.” (H. S. Klapper, Materials and Corrosion, Vol. 62 (10), 2011)

Topics in Number 46 include:
  • Comprehensive review of the structural aspects and anti-corrosion properties of passive films on metals and alloys; a detailed description is given of the nucleation and growth of 2-dimensional passive films at earlier stages, their effect on the corrosion properties of metal surfaces, and the nanostructures of 3-dimensional passive films
  • Research on nano- and micro-fabrications based on anodizing treatments combined with chemical/mechanical processes such as laser irradiation, atomic force micro-probe processing, and thin film deposition techniques
  • Passivity of aluminum-based amorphous alloys and stainless steels and the catalytic activity of copper-based amorphous alloys
  • Theoretical analysis of the admittance behavior of passive film/electrolyte junction based on the theory of amorphous semiconductor Schottky barriers
From reviews of previous volumes:
"This long-standing series continues its tradition of offering high quality reviews of established and emerging subject areas, together with the less common aspects of electrochemical science... [and]... deserves a place in electrochemistry libraries and should prove useful to electrochemists and related workers."
—Chemistry and Industry
"Continues the valuable service that has been rendered by the Modern Aspects series."
—Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry
"Will definitely be of much use to researchers in the field of electrochemistry. . . . The editors of this well-produced volume deserve all appreciation for maintaining the excellent standard of the series."
—Bulletin of Electrochemistry
"Extremely well-referenced and very readable.... Maintains the overall high standards of the series."
—Journal of the American Chemical Society
