Psychoanalysis, Neuroscience and Adolescent Development: Non-Linear Perspectives on the Regulation of the Self
Autor Harold K. Bendicsenen Limba Engleză Paperback – 24 ian 2019
With the powerful impact of neuroscience research findings, opportunities emerge to create a new paradigm to attempt to organize specific psychoanalytic theories. Neurobiological regulation offers such an opportunity. By combining elements of domains of compatible knowledge into a flexible explanatory synergy, the potential for an intellectually satisfying theoretical framework can be created. In this work, Harold Bendicsen formulates a multi-disciplinary theoretical approach involving current research and drawing on neuroscience to consider the behaviour regulation processes of the mind/brain and the capacities and potential it brings to understanding the development of adolescents and young adults.
Psychoanalysis, Neuroscience and Adolescent Development advances Bendicsen’s study of adolescence and the transition to young adulthood, begun in The Transformational Self. It will be of great interest to psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists, as well as psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatrists and counsellors.

Recenzii
"Bendicsen builds upon his adolescent developmental theory expressed in his book, The Transformational Self, by offering a synergistic approach to adolescent and early adulthood development. With theoretical breadth and descriptive case-study depth he offers a matrix of interlocking theories that further establishes the viability of self-regulation theory. The significance of this well researched text includes how neurobiological research combined with contemporary psychoanalytic theory offers a more comprehensive understanding of the whole person from a bio-psycho-social viewpoint."
Rev. C. Kevin Gillespie, SJ, Pastor, Holy Trinity Parish, Washington, DC
"Harold Bendicsen has written a well-researched and richly synthetic contribution to our understanding of development, case formulation and approaches to treatment, incorporating the multiple frames of reference from philosophy, to subjectivity to neuroscience available in our current state of the art. This creative scholarly work is a must for academicians clinicians alike."
Charles M. Jaffe, M.D., Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst, Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute; Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois
"The concept of a 'developmental algorithm' is a dazzling use of current modern metaphor for the analysis of human processes. Bendicsen's metaphor creates a sufficient connection and platform for the discussion and integration of non-linear conceptualizations and theories of human development. A developmental algorithm has the possibility of becoming the accessible key to unlock the heavily encrypted psychoanalytic theories of development that have been siloed away for decades. This metaphor allows for multiple forces, both internal and external, to be observed in and to the 'self' on its journey from birth to death. Bendicsen's multi-modal description of the necessary processes for the Regulation of the Self provides a vantage point to the multiple processes at work."
William Gieseke, Ph.D., Fundamentals Year Faculty, Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute; Faculty, Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program, Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.
"In the Regulation of the Self, Harold Bendicsen provides us with a comprehensive, scholarly and contemporary integration of psychoanalysis and neuroscience. Drawing on his own clinical work and extensive study of the literature he shows us where psychoanalysis is today, how we got here, and how to use this knowledge to help our patients successfully become themselves."
Neal Spira, M.D., Training and Supervising Analyst, Dean, Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute

Descriere
Psychoanalysis, Neuroscience and Adolescent Development: Non-Linear Perspectives on the Regulation of the Self explores how psychoanalysis can combine its theoretical perspectives with more recent discoveries about neurological and non-linear developmental processes that unfold during the period of puberty to young adulthood, to help inform understanding of contemporary adolescent behaviours and mental health issues.
