Recenzii
The second edition of Psychology for Medicine is another well written and much needed resource for students studying medicine. This edition has a broader application to health (depth and breadth of theory and application) for a range of healthcare professionals. The topics covered are all relevant from the foundations of defining what we mean by “health” to more complex theories of behaviour change, motivation health, illness and disease. The text offers a great source of information but is also creative in its application through the use of clinical notes, case studies and revision questions to consolidate learning.
Whilst I appreciate this textbook is aimed at healthcare professionals, I rely on it as one of three core texts for an introductory undergraduate health psychology module. What I like about this welcome second edition is the inclusion of ‘healthcare’ in the title and material in chapter 17 that engages with evidence based medicine/practice and embeds the need for critical appraisal skills in contemporary healthcare practice.
The well-thought out design of this text makes it accessible to a wide audience. Case-studies, clinical notes, and activities designed to enhance critical thinking make it relevant to HE students, psychologists in training, and other professionals with an interest in the psychological aspects of health and healthcare.
