Quantum Mechanical Models of Metal Surfaces and Nanoparticles: SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology

Autor Wolfgang Gräfe
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 8 iul 2015
This book proposes two simple quantum mechanical models for the analytical description of metal surfaces and nanoparticles. It gives an ostensive picture of the forces acting in a metal surface and deduces analytical formulae for the description of their physical properties. This book explains the relation between near-surface stress and familiar surface parameters. The concept of the separation of the three-dimensional body into three one-dimensional subsystems was applied. The content is of interest to all those working in the field of surface physics.

Notă biografică

W. Gräfe was born in 1938 in Berlin, Germany. He received his degree in physics from the Humboldt-Universität in Berlin (GDR) in 1962. In the following years he worked with semiconductors and semiconductor surfaces at the Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin. With the results of those investigations he received also at the Humboldt-Universität in 1969 the degree Dr. rer. nat. (Ph D). From 1971 he worked in the field of mechanical properties of mineral glasses. With the results of these investigations he received the degree Dr. sc. nat. in 1984 at the Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin. From 1991 till his retirement in 2001 he was employed in a federal administrative authority in Berlin.
