Recenzii
The doctrine of providence reflects how God guides his creation and has been widely conceived in action terms in recent theological scholarship. Divine action is then modelled on human action...To sum it up: this by Kopf is worthwhile reading, especially when dealing with the question of evolution on one hand and God's providence on the other in the dialogue between science and theology (religion).
It will surely be a significant contribution to Aquinas scholarship. It explores and espouses classical metaphysics rigorously, and argues its case meticulously...Most important, its substantive argument for a notion of radical divine transcendence is, in my view, right and necessary for theology in general, as well as specifically for this vital doctrine of providence.
It explores and espouses classical metaphysics rigorously, and argues its case meticulously. It is clear and generally well signposted...Most important, its substantive argument for a notion of radical divine transcendence is, in my view, right and necessary for theology in general, as well as specifically for this vital doctrine of providence.
Kopf's book offers a timely and relevant contribution to the contemporary Thomistic position in the DAD...the book will definitely be one of the important points of reference for all present and future scholars engaging in DAD and critically evaluating DAP.
Kopf writes with admirable clarity, though the book, which began life as a dissertation, still bears the marks of the extensive (even excessive) signposting and summarising that characterises that genre, which can make for somewhat slow going, particularly for readers who are already familiar with some of the views and debates discussed.
Reframing Divine Providence offers an elegant and theologically sound account of the relationship between divine providence and natural creaturely causes. The "new perspectives from Aquinas" are a welcome intervention into the divine action debate.
