Recenzii
’... this collection represents a strong and vital contribution to the study of Restoration Ireland. The high level of analysis, detail, and scholarship in each essay, coupled with the accessibility of the writing, ensures that this volume is worthy of attention from specialists and undergraduates alike.’ Renaissance Quarterly '...a useful contribution to our knowledge and giving ample grounds for optimism about the future of Irish Restoration studies.' English Historical Review ’There is much in this book that is both new and interesting, and it deserves a place on the bookshelf of anyone interested in the early-modern British Isles.’ Catholic Historical Review ’Successfully conceptualises a hitherto rather interjacent period in Irish history......undoubtedly stakes out the ground for a major, multi-faceted student of later seventeenth-century Ireland.’ Journal of Ecclesiastical History ’... a welcome publication that will assist students of eighteenth-century Ireland to locate the long eighteenth century in its wider context.’ Eighteenth-Century Ireland ’This volume of essays certainly does credible justice to a particularly crucial era in Irish history and should be part of any Irish history library.’ Sixteenth Century Journal '... a most lively and rewarding contribution to our understanding of Ireland in the Restoration era.' Scottish Historical Review
Descriere
In recent decades, the historiography of early modern Ireland, particularly of the seventeenth century, has been revitalised. However, much of this new work has focused either on the critical decades of the 1640s or the Williamite wars, while the Restoration period still remains largely neglected. This volume provides an opportunity to explore the period between 1660 and 1688, and reassess some of the crucial events it witnessed. It provides a set of interrelated essays that not only addresses a gap in the history of the Restoration period, but also serves to take stock of the limited work that has been done on the period.
