It tells the story of a nobleman's attempt to redeem the suffering his youthful philandering inflicted on a peasant girl who ends up a prisoner in Siberia.Tolstoy's vision of redemption achieved through loving forgiveness, and his condemnation of violence, dominate the novel. the

his

Peace

Karenina
(1877),
but
also
in
his
shorter
works.
Seeking
religious
justification
for
his
life,
Tolstoy
evolved
a
new
Christianity
based
upon
his
own
interpretation
of
the
Gospels.
He
died
at
the
age
of
eighty-two
on
November
20,
1910.
