This book on rice bran oil is the latest book in a series that includes books on soybeans, Canola, palm oil and sunflower. Like its predecessors it has been edited by recognized experts who have engaged specialist authors for the various chapters…. The book confirms that rice bran continues to be an underutilized raw material… Hopefully, this book which includes chapters describing Nutritional ingredients and active compositions of defatted rice bran and Rice bran protein and shows that oil is not the only valuable product of bran extraction will encourage such a system being realized. Perhaps the chapter on Rice husk, rice husk ash and their applications, will also stimulate interest in the field…
Rice bran oil is unique in that it contains γ-oryzanol, a mixture of esters of ferulic acid and a range of phytosterols, which mixture is considered to provide the oil with important nutraceutical properties. Accordingly, the book includes chapters dealing with Nutritional studies, Micronutrients, and Nutritional ingredients… The book is well written and easy to read.
