In the mid-fifteenth century, the armies of Medinia, Skoland, and Varakov are marching to war. He hopes the reclusive sage will help in curtailing the growing ambitions of the dark Varakovan king, Lord Victor. But as the Oracle reveals new insight into the origins of the Beast, Woodrow fears his journey has only just begun.

Woodrow's young protege, Willie, a former Medinian farm serf, is now a reluctant member of the Pack. In an attempt to protect those he loves from the king's wrath, Willie is forced to stand with the Pack and fight. Meanwhile, the Beast of Varakov pursues his own secretive mission, recruiting an unlikely aide to his cause. Together, the dark masters enlist powers from the past to assist them in carrying out a dire scheme.
