Shelter
Autor Jung Yunen Limba Engleză Paperback – 5 apr 2017
When Kyung's mother staggers, beaten and bruised, into the garden of his small suburban home, the illusion of control over his life that he has been trying to maintain is shattered. Despite his promising career, Kyung and his wife have always lived beyond their means; now their past decisions are beginning to catch up with them.
Growing up, his wealthy parents gave Kyung every material advantage, but little warmth. When a violent crime leaves them unable to live on their own, he takes his parents in. For the first time in years, the shattered family find themselves under the same roof . . . with what turn out to be tragic consequences.
'This absorbing, suspenseful début tracks familial obligation and the legacy of trauma . . . The narrative piles on surprises at a tightly controlled clip, as [Kyung's] family is forced to confront the past and the price it has paid for stability' New Yorker
'Shocking, and very poignant' Times Literary Supplement
'Gripping . . . Yun shows how, although shelter doesn't guarantee safety and blood doesn't guarantee love, there's something inextricable about the relationship between a child and a parent' New York Times
