Notă biografică
A graduate of the University of South Alabama, Wayne spent a short time in the Merchant Marines and then embarked on a 3,500-mile tour of the country, hitch-hiking and working his way west. That journey led him to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in 1965 which eventually became "home." He began rafting the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park in 1967, which sparked his interest in the history of the valley and the creation of Grand Teton National Park. The consequence of which culminated in a three-decade research project involving extensive interviews with pioneer families and people intimately involved in the various proposals to create the Park as well as other more traditional archival repositories. The year 2016 marks his 50th year as a professional river guide and his 36th year as an outfitter of multiday wilderness river excursions on the Main Salmon River through the River of No Return Wilderness in central Idaho. In 2011, Wayne's Salmon River Rafting Company was featured in an Emmy-winning PBS documentary entitled Salmon River Lodges & Legacies. He has also hosted film crews from ESPN, and several regional NBC affiliates. Wayne continues to split his river time between the Snake in Grand Teton National Park and the Main Salmon in Idaho.
