Povestea lui Alina continua, insa caracterul care mi s-a parut cel mai amuzant in aceasta carte era Nikolai.

The second Grishaverse book, Siege and Storm follows directly on the heels of its predecessor, Shadow and Bone with Alina and Mal on the run from Voldemort-like Darkling into the land of the Zemeni...but not for long. The book starts out at a sprint as the Darkling hunts the Sun Summoner and her beloved tracker before dragging them back into Ravka where the pace slows down again until a confrontation at the end of the book which naturally leaves us hanging and waiting for the library copy of Ruin and Rising to come in. I would say it was better written than Shadow and Bone, on par with Six of Crows, but not as complex and intriguing as Crooked Kingdom. As I stated in my review of Shadow and Bone, I do appreciate the originality of Bardugo's universe, but sometimes the blatant references to the Harry Potter universe (the morphing bad guy who is centuries old, the color-coded "houses") or Lord of the Rings (Alina's struggle with the collar and scales is like that of Bilbo and Gollum with the Ring) become a bit distracting at times. I think that she learned this lesson for the last few books. As for kids, there is still a lot of death and blood in this book although no torture per se or "I promise not to kill you, oops, joking! you're dead" moments like in Six of Crows. Hopefully, my son will see the dangers of religious fanaticism (although I feel that this will morph a bit in Ruin and Rising) and unbridled ambition and appreciate loyalty and each person's unique gifts (although in this book we truly only focus on Alina's gifts more than those of the other surviving Grishas). So, from a morals perspective, this one also comes up short compared to Crooked Kingdom I have to say. In its favor, I suppose, is the Grishaverse version How To Win Friends and Influence People where the text is peppered with pithy maxims such as "Love speaks in flowers, truth requires thorns" (sort of a goth manifesto I suppose) which Nikolai uses to impart wisdom to his would-be acolyte and object of his unrequited love, Alina. Regardless, it is an exciting and fun read and I am looking forward to the trilogy conclusion in Ruin and Rising.

Darkness never dies.
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can't outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling's game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her--or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
"Siege and Storm "is the second book in The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
