Written by a teacher for teachers, Teaching Resilience and Mental Health Across the Curriculum is an integrative approach to pedagogy for educators at the high school and college level to survive, thrive, and sustain in the profession. Practical guidance in designing real-world curriculum is offered alongside accessible strategies for engagement, investment, and active learning in student-centered classrooms. An essential guide for teachers, it includes techniques for incorporating well-being that are grounded in culturally responsive teaching, trauma-informed instruction, mental health, resilience, and emotional literacy. Teachers will also gain insight on how to make the career sustainable through practices for self-compassion and authentic self-care so they can not only survive, but flourish in and out of school. For all the challenges that students and teachers face, this book defines what it means, and what it takes, to teach in today’s classrooms.

Recenzii

"Over the last several years the science of learning has shown how addressing the social, emotional, and mental needs of children is a pathway to academic learning. In her thoughtful and practical book, Linda Yaron Weston has brilliantly created a roadmap, filled with evidence, stories, and tools for teachers and administrators to teach resilience and improve life success for every young person in our nation’s public schools. A must read for every educator prepared to teach the whole child!"— Barnett Barry, Research Professor, University of South Carolina; Senior Research Fellow at the Learning Policy Institute
"Linda Yaron Weston makes the lofty accessible in this book—it simultaneously validates some of my best teaching practices while motivating me to take concrete next steps in fostering a culture of resilience and bolstering strong mental health amongst both staff and students at my school. It couldn't be more relevant right now and even though I just finished it, I'm already planning to read it again."— Nancy Phear, National Board Certified Teacher of English, AVID, and AP Capstone
"A useful guide for educators who are seeking practical suggestions for addressing the social, psychological and emotional needs of their students. In order to make a difference during these challenging times, teachers and students must be resilient. This book provides highly effective advice on how to do that important work."— Pedro Noguera, Dean of USC Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California
