The City in China: New Perspectives on Contemporary Urbanism

Editat de Ray Forrest, Julie Ren, Bart Wissink
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 14 iul 2020
Robert Park’s seminal 1915 paper “The City” was the opening salvo for the vastly influential Chicago School of Urban Sociology, forming the basis of urban studies for decades to come. This book uses Park’s research as a jumping-off point for an eastward pivot, looking toward the Chinese metropolises that now occupy the place of primacy American cities once held in both academic and economic terms. The City in China gathers essays from a broad range of specialists on contemporary urban China specialists, who consider the relevance—or irrelevance—of Park’s findings in the twenty-first century. Pondering questions of interest for a broad range of urban studies scholars, this book will also be an invaluable resource for policy-makers and planners.
