Recenzii
Theologians use different methods to address Christological contradictions. Some contend that they are only apparent contradictions. Others hold the contradictions to be true while eliminating logic from theology. Jc Beall takes a different approach. Beall's approach in The Contradictory Christ is to hold Christological contradictions as real and true while preserving a place for reason and logic in theology.
Those who have sensed the contradiction of Christ and have been unsatisfied with answers striving for consistency will be pleased with contradictory Christ theology. It is indeed theologically faithful and, for those willing to entertain non-classical logic, logically sound.
In The Contradictory Christ, Beall does his best to explain the issues in an elementary manner, and he does a good job, but readers who start this book with little understanding of symbolic logic must be willing to acquire such an understanding in the process of reading it. Beall writes as an analytic theologian; parts of the book originated in the pages of the Journal of Analytic Theology. Just as physicists aim to present true theories about physical reality, Beall aims to present true theories about God (and, therefore, about Christ). A physicist who wants to understand the structure of space must be willing to understand Riemannian geometry and, if Beall is right, a theologian who wants to understand the logic of the incarnation must be willing to understand the logic of First Degree Entailment.
