Notă biografică
Art Hilsinger learned the value of teamwork as a very young man, participating during his school years in football, ice hockey and track. His leadership skills and competitive spirit were obvious from the start. Number one in his class at the Pingry School, he also graduated with honors from both The Taft School and Princeton University, eventually earning an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Art joined the army in World War II and was part of the occupying forces in Japan in 1945 just after the armistice. During his career, he traveled extensively on business, and, after retirement, he and his wife Barbara continued to journey to the four corners of the world, adding to their art collections along the way. Art has especially loved skiing in Colorado with his family, an activity he continues to enjoy at the present time. In addition to founding and leading the Hilsinger Corporation for more than forty years, Art also was very involved in the optical industry. He was one of the founders and a president of the Vision Council of America (VICA), the premier organization in the industry. He also served a term as chairman of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) where he was a board and executive committee member for many years. During those years, he helped fight many an uphill battle for business in the state. Both Art and his wife Barbara are active supporters of three major Boston institutions: the Boston Ballet, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. A devoted husband, Art also is the proud father and staunch champion for three daughters, two stepdaughters, and a blended family of seven grandchildren.
