The History of the University of Oxford: Volume VI: Nineteenth Century Oxford, Part 1: History of the University of Oxford

Editat de M. G. Brock, M. C. Curthoys
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 26 noi 1997
The University of Oxford saw far-reaching intellectual and institutional changes in the course of the nineteenth century. In 1800 it was still an Anglican institution in an Anglican state, one of its foremost duties being the maintenance of the principles of the Church of England. Before the end of the century, its transformation to an undenominational `free-thinking' institution was almost complete. Volume VI of the magisterial History of the University explores the major developments of the period.

Recenzii

It is difficult in a short review to do justice to so massive, authoritative and well-illustrated a work as the latest volume of the official history of Oxford University.
This work ... is in every way monumental. One should note the consensus of its contributors: the feeling for the university we have almost everywhere lost.
One can find everything one wants to know in the Oxford History .../ Max Beloff, All Souls College, Oxford University, Minerva, Vol 36, no 4, winter 1998
