Rabindranath Tagore wurde am 7. Mai 1861 in Kalkutta geboren und starb am 7. August 1941 ebendort. Er war ein bengalischer Dichter, Philosoph, Maler, Komponist und Musiker. 1913 erhielt er den Nobelpreis für Literatur und war damit der erste asiatische Nobelpreisträger.
