This book analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on corporations in Malaysia, discussing the challenges and the corporations’ responses to them. The relevant provisions in the Companies Act 2016 are examined, and where necessary, reforms are proposed in light of the new business environment brought on as a result of the pandemic. The book also discusses the interim measures initiated by the various regulators in order to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and analyzes the adequacy of such measures by drawing analogous positions from countries such as the UK, Australia, and Singapore.
This book is a helpful guide for practitioners to manage the impact of COVID-19 on corporations and the Companies Act 2016. The book is a reference point for regulators and policy makers in crafting policies to combat the impact of COVID-19.

Notă biografică


Loganathan Krishnan has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from University of London, England, and a Master of Laws and a Doctorate in Law from the University of Malaya, specializing in Company Law. He also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia. He lectures Company Law to undergraduate and postgraduate students. His research expertise is in the area of Company Law. He is Recipient of several research grants including from FRGS. He is Council Member of Asean Law Association of Malaysia, Committee Member of Constitutional and Human Rights Committee and Corporate Securities and Investment Committee, LAWASIA. He is also Article Reviewer for Borneo Journal of Politics and Policy, Malaysian Journal of Law and Society, 2nd Borneo Research Education Conference, Australasian Journal of Law, Ethics and Governance, International Business & Social Entrepreneurship Science Research Conference (BIBSESRC), and UUM Journal of Legal Studies. He is also Editorial Board Member of Australasian Journal of Law, Ethics and Governance. He has served as External Examiner for LL.M and Ph.D. for Northern University of Malaysia (UUM) and University of Malaya. In 2017, he received the Letter of Commendation for Excellence in Education from Pro-Vice-Chancellor. In 2014 and 2016, he received the Letter of Commendation from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Australia, for teaching.
Chan Wai Meng is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She lectures Company Law and Commercial Law since she joined the Faculty in 1998. Wai Meng has published extensively. Among her publications are Third Party Rights in Insurance Law in Malaysia, Essential Company Law in Malaysia: Navigating the Companies Act 2016, and Navigating the Companies Act 2016 for SMEs. She contributed to The Annotated Malaysian Companies Act 2016 published by Sweet & Maxwell Asia. Wai Meng is Examiner and Assessor for Company Law in a number of professional examinations. She is also Associate Trainer for the Companies Commission of Malaysia. Prior to joining academia, Wai Meng was in legal practice and in the banking industry for ten years.
