Autor Claudia Luizen Limba Engleză Paperback – 6 sep 2017
In gripping stories about people struggling with depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and more, Luiz brings us right into each treatment where we discover how psychoanalysts today prepare their patient’s mind for self-discovery. Following each story, absorbing commentaries acquaint the reader with the theories of the mind that currently guide treatment, and the innovative clinical techniques that are revolutionizing the field, including how Luiz learned to integrate her own emotions as therapeutic instruments for diagnosis and cure.
The Making of a Psychoanalyst is an ideal book for psychoanalysts and psychotherapists in practice and in training, mental health professionals working in social care, and students interested in the evolution of an undying discipline that embodies personal narrative. Anyone interested in knowing how two human beings interact with each other to effect profound change will want to read this book.

Recenzii
"This is a new, refreshing voice that speaks with complete clarity and understanding about the way people really experience the world. It is a book that is valuable for students and clinicians, as well as laypeople."
- Faye Newsome, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Centre for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies
"Recently, the art of storytelling has come into its own, with the popularity of the Moth, and other similar story-telling venues. It wasn’t invented by psychoanalysts in the late 19th century, but it certainly was brought to the level of high art as well as science. Unfortunately, when psychoanalysis was brought from Vienna to America, it was coopted by medical practitioners, a tradition that Freud himself objected to, and wrote, "The Question of Lay Analysis," in defense of training psychoanalyst from all walks of life, not just physicians.
Psychoanalytic patients are amongst the best story-tellers we have. They tell the stories of their lives; they ponder the interesting, the painful, the unimaginable (until the unconscious becomes conscious, and all is able to be imagined).
In this new, wonderfully digestible book, Claudia Luiz makes it possible to understand complex principles in an emotional way. It’s educative, entertaining, even enthralling, as a good analysis is, to both patient and analyst." - -Jane G. Goldberg, Psychoanalyst-Author-Holistic Practitoner-Blogger
"Claudia Luiz understands what leads to mental health, and makes complex psychoanalytic principles accessible to readers."
- Jane Snyder, President, Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis
"Like her previous book, Dr. Luiz creatively and cogently articulates the inner workings of modern psychoanalysis. She bridges the gap from old to new, modernizing psychoanalysis for our contemporary culture.
This book will be required reading for all my students.
And, since we always remain students in this field, it is an enlightening read for all clinicians and aspiring therapists.
Dr. Luiz blasts through the analytic rhetoric and jargon to bring Modern Psychoanalysis into the 21st. century.
Her writing style captivates the reader like a novelist as she teaches the core principles and techniques of contemporary analytic work. Delightful and refreshing."
- Steven H. Padnick, Long Island Centre for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies
"An enduring pleasure. Luiz invites us in with her beautiful prose, but what kept me at the table was the feast of intellect, wit, and compassion each chapter provides. I return often for the pleasure of reaching the turn in each tale, in which I can see myself, and all humanity, illuminated from within."
- Matthew Ponsot, Songwriter, Musician
"Arguably the best lay book written about modern psychoanalysis"
-The Journal of Modern Psychoanalysis
