Notă biografică
Grant Kennedy is an immigrant from Jamaica, who has been living in the US since December 1976. Unlike the immigrants he writes about in this book, he came to America legally with a green card. But as someone from the immigrant community, he was privy to and was always very intrigued by the stories of hardship, ingenuity, and courage of those around him who came to the US illegally. He was also concerned about how such intelligent and inspiring people did not have a voice in the debates about them, and how the US Immigration Service looks the other way and allows these people to remain here when the politics on the issue is dormant. However, when the political heat is turned up on the issue, the Immigration Service then tends to wheel it big stick to irrationally deport people, many of whom have lived in America longer than they lived in their home countries. Most of the illegal immigrants are hard-working, law-abiding people (except for the fact that they are living in the US illegally). Even though many are under paid for their labor and skill, for them the money they can earn in America under exploitive conditions is far better than what would make as legal residents in their homelands. So, for this reason they will keep coming to America by any means necessary - no matter what walls are erected around the US borders. Because in spite of the hardships they face, America is still the world's beacon of hope where the underprivileged can have a chance to rise above their circumstances, pursue their dreams and actualize their God-given potentials.Mr. Kennedy is a CPA. He currently resides in Westchester County, New York, with his wife Gail. They have three young adult sons and two grands. His purpose for writing this book is to give the American populous a glimpse into what illegal immigrants go through to be part of the American experience that so many of us take for granted.
