The Rainbow Trail (Annotated)

Autor Zane Grey
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 22 ian 2019
The definitive edition. • Features an extended biography of the life and experiences of Pearl Zane Grey The Mormons were hell-bent on preserving their doctrine of polygamy. They devised a smart scheme of hiding their wives inside "sealed" villages away from the long arm of the law. The Rainbow Trail is Zane Grey's sequel to his 1912 classic, Riders of the Purple Sage. The definitive western ended with the rolling down of a huge rock by Lassiter to seal up himself, Jane Withersteen, and the little Fay Larkin in the "Surprise Valley," away from the pursuing Mormons. Years later, John Shefford, a disillusioned minister who was kicked out of his church, got a new job delivering goods to a village of almost 50 women-a "sealed-wife" village. He became friends with Venters who told him the story of Lassiter, Jane, and Fay. Shefford became intrigued with the tale and decided to find the "Surprise Valley." In his travels, he heard another chilling story that the Mormons had found a way into the Valley and carried young Fay away forcefully. He had to either organize a rescue or forget getting his beloved Larkin forever. In a bid to save the girl, Shefford embarked on a series of journeys full of hardship, treachery, narrow escapes, and mixed joy. If you're a fan of Zane Grey, don't miss this exciting adventure story.

He was the fourth son born to Alice "Allie" Josephine Zane and Lewis M. Gray. His mother was a Quaker immigrant whose forefather Robert Zane came to the American colonies in 1673. His father was a dentist. Grey studied dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his graduation in 1896. He got married to Lina Roth also known as Dolly in 1905. He had anger issues, depression and suffered mood swings which affected his life. And so, Grey spent most of his time away from the family, while Dolly managed his career and raised their three children. Their family moved to California in 1918 and settled in Altadena, California in 1920 in a home they named as Zane Grey Estate. Grey continued writing during 1930s and was in great depression. From 1925 to his death in 1939 he travelled away from his family exploring the unspoiled lands, particularly the islands of the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia.
