The Wyoming Ranch Letters
Autor Elinore Pruitt Stewarten Limba Engleză Paperback – 12 dec 2013
Elinore Pruitt Stewart is renowned for her books 'Letters of a Woman Homesteader' and its sequel 'Letters on an Elk Hunt, ' both of which are included in this Leonaur good value, two-in-one edition. Born in 1876 in the Oklahoma Indian Territory, the oldest of nine children, by the time she was 30 years old she had married Harry Rupert and was the widowed mother of a baby daughter. Three years later Elinore answered an advertisement for a housekeeper for rancher Henry Stewart at Burntfork, Wyoming. She filed a claim on 160 acres of land adjacent to Stewart's property and the couple were married soon afterwards. Elinore's life as the couple struggled to run their ranch and raise their family on the Wyoming prairie, was a harsh one, but her books show it be a life full of encounters with notable and memorable characters and rich in variety and experience. She has left us a rewarding, charming and poignant insight into the lives of American settlers who carved a living and a nation out of the western states. Her story epitomises the spirit of the pioneer women who tamed a wilderness and will resonate with everyone who enjoys reading about the lives of those determined to triumph over adversity.
Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket; our hardbacks are cloth bound and feature gold foil lettering on their spines and fabric head and tail bands.

Notă biografică
Wyoming homesteader Elinore Pruitt Stewart was born Elinore Pruitt on June 3, 1876, and died on October 8, 1933. She sent letters to a previous employer in Denver, Colorado, outlining her life there. Two compilations of her letters were released in 1914 and 1915. The 1979 film Heartland was based on the first of those compilations. On June 3, 1876, Elinore Pruitt was born at White Bead Hill, which is now a deserted township in the Chickasaw Nation of Indian Territory. Near the Mexican border, her father passed away in the late 1870s while serving in the Army. She wed Harry Cramer Rupert, who was 48 at the time, somewhere about 1902. For many years, she kept her marriage a secret because she wanted to be able to claim the property as her own. She gave up her claim in 1912 in favor of her mother-in-law rather than risk losing it for failing to comply with the Homestead Acts' rules for claims made by unmarried women. The years 1909 to 1914 are covered in Letters of a Woman Homesteader. August through October 1914 are the two action-packed months covered in Letters on an Elk Hunt. When a horse bolted in 1926, a hay mower ran over her, causing severe injuries from which she never fully recovered.
