Audies (2007)
The last of Virginia Woolf's novels published during her lifetime. "The Years" (1937) is seemingly epic in scope, spanning fifty years and the trials and tribulations of an extended family, but remains in-depth and personal focusing on a single day in each chosen year to give the reader a real connection as we watch the characters and relationships evolve and grow through their life time. Virginia Woolf (1882¿1941) was an English writer. She is widely hailed as being among the most influential modernist authors of the 20th century and a pioneer of stream of consciousness narration. She suffered numerous nervous breakdowns during her life primarily as a result of the deaths of family members, and it is now believed that she may have suffered from bipolar disorder. In 1941, Woolf drowned herself in the River Ouse at Lewes, aged 59. Other notable works by this author include: ¿Pattledom¿ (1925), ¿A Room of One's Own¿ (1929), ¿The Captain's Death Bed: and Other Essays¿ (1950). Read & Co. Classics is proudly republishing this classic novel now in a new edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

Descriere

Descriere de la o altă ediție sau format:
As the Pargiters, a middle-class English family, move from the oppressive confines of the Victorian home of the 1880s to the `present day' of the 1930s, they are weighed down by the pressures of war, the social strictures of patriarchy, capitalism and Empire, and the rise of Fascism. Engaging with a painful struggle between utopian hopefulness and crippled with despair, the novel is a savage indictment of Virginia Woolf's society, but its bitter sadness is relieved by the longing for some better way of life, where `freedom and justice' might really be possible. This is Virginia Woolf's longest novel, and the one she found the most difficult to write. The most popular of all her writings during her lifetime, it can now be re-read as the most challengingly political, even revolutionary, of all her books.
