The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are 196 Indian sutras (aphorisms) that constitute the foundational text of Ashtanga Yoga, also called Raja Yoga. In medieval times, Ashtanga Yoga was cast as one of the six orthodox astika schools of Hindu philosophy.
