This book is about media content analysis in the English language print media in South Asia, with reference to certain contemporary issues. The focus is on English language papers and news magazines; additionally, some Hindi, Urdu, and Sindhi newspapers are examined. The highlight is on the ways in which English language publications contribute to and function within middle class matrices of modernity, consumption, conflict, and conservatism in India.

Subarno Chattarji is Lecturer, Department of American Studies, Swansea University, UK. His previous publications include Memories of a Lost War: American Poetic Responses to the Vietnam War (2001), and two edited volumes — India in the Age of Globalization: Contemporary Discourses and Texts (2003) and An Anthology of Indian Prose Writings in English (2004).
