Translating Gender: Iris, cartea 25

Editat de Eleonora Federici
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 8 feb 2011
The European Thematic Network Acume 2 -Interfacing Sciences, Literature and Humanities: an Interdisciplinary Approach- discussed translation theory and practice through an interdisciplinary approach at an international conference held at the University of Calabria in 2009. The contributors of this collection propose different voices on the theory and practice of translation as an act of communication across linguistic and cultural barriers where the translator's role is central. The volume explores current theoretical perspectives on gender and translation, focuses on the debate on gender and language, investigates some examples of translatresses' work and proposes practices of translation by women, analysing the complexities in translating -transgender- characters in fiction and the representation of gender roles in cinematographic adaptations of novels. Highlighting the -double difference- of the translatress, the collection offers a textual tapestry on translation that invites women/readers to question once again the act of translation."
