Using smartphones and apps are innovative ways of collecting data among the public. The Netherlands Institute for Social Research SCP was involved in one of the first experiments to implement a smartphone application for collecting time use. This report describes the pilot study conducted by SCP and CentERdata (University of Tilburg) in 2011-2012 in the Netherlands to test use of smartphones as a data collection method.</p>
