Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) continues to causes a lot of havoc worldwide with Sub-saharan Africa bearing the greatest burden. Control measures which have so far relied only on vector elimination and chemotherapy (with Ivermectin) have not been as successful as previously projected. Alternative neasures of control are desperately needed. Excretory-secretory products (ESPs) have been reported to be a good source of drug targets, diagnostic tools as wells as vaccine candidates. This is based on the investigation of ESPs from Onchocerca ochengi as possible vaccine candidates for onchocerciasis.
