Recenzii
"This book on vascular biology as it relates to common complications of vascular diseases is divided into six sections addressing vascular complications in the pulmonary, renal, and cardiac systems as well as transplanted organs. … The book is aimed at both basic and clinical scientists as well as clinicians in several different specialties. … the book is most valuable for research scientists. … This is an excellent book for basic or clinical scientists … ." Textul de pe ultima copertă
Vascular disease provides a clear example of the inherent and practical relationship between basic science and clinical medicine. Basic science underpins the rationale of treatment and potential future therapeutic approaches; problems in clinical management often direct new lines of laboratory research. Progress in treatment cannot continue without this close collaboration and this book has been designed to review this fascinating collaborative field of medical science.
As part of this evolving collaboration, Vascular Complications of Human Disease: Mechanisms and Consequences reviews the study, pathogenesis, management and treatment of some of the most common vascular diseases. The book includes discussions of approaches to gene therapy and aspects of regenerative medicine plus also physiology and pathogenesis, surgical and pharmacologic treatment, and complications.
Clinical specialists caring for patients with any form of vascular disease must clearly understand the basic scientific rationale for disease pathogenesis. This book presents a cohesive review of our current understanding of the most important areas of clinical science and medicine in vascular disease and identifies areas for research in the future. It will be a useful reference for basic and clinical scientists, and clinical specialists in vascular surgery, cardiology, angiology, neurology and any discipline in which the vascular system plays a fundamental part in the disease process.
Caracteristici
Edited by senior doctors and researchers with a track record in research, clinical medicine and publishing

A co-ordinated, concise and carefully composed collection of reviews on vascular biology of interest to a wide readership
Descriere
Arterial disease and inflammation are fundamental causes of many medical conditions. Recently, there have been several major advances in our understanding of the causes of diseases affecting the heart, lungs, kidneys, skin and blood vessels. The role of endothelium derived growth factors, nitric oxide and other messengers in vascular disease has been more clearly defined. New treatments targeting these molecular disorders are being used with beneficial effects. Further progress depends on a combined approach embracing basic and clinical research so that treatments of common, important diseases can be designed intelligently and logically. "Vascular Complications in Human Disease" presents our understanding of vascular disease, in reviews of the main strands of basic and clinical research written by leading international experts. It also identifies routes for further fruitful research and development. This concise and carefully edited book, avoiding repetition, includes the full spectrum of basic research which is not covered in other textbooks.
