William M. Alley, PhD, is a popular speaker in communicating environmental science and policy to a wide range of audiences. He was the Chief, Office of Groundwater for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for almost two decades and is presently Director of Science and Technology for the National Ground Water Association (NGWA). He has published over 100 scientific publications. William is active with national and international earth science organizations. Dr. Alley is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and recipient of many awards, including the Meritorious Presidential Rank Award. Alley has worked with EPA for many years during his career as USGS and NGWA. He is currently a member of the EPA National Drinking Water Advisory Council. The idea for this book resulted from Bill's participation as a member of the EPA National Drinking Water Advisory Council and seeing first-hand how demoralized the agency was after Trumps' election.
Rosemarie Alley has extensive writing experience in fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. They have written two previous books: Too Hot to Touch:The Problem of High-Level Nuclear Waste (2013) and High and Dry: Meeting the Challenges of the World's Growing Dependence on Groundwater (2017).
Descriere
This book examines the daunting hurdles facing the EPA in its critical roles in drinking water, air and water pollution, climate change, and toxic chemicals. It illustrates the importance of a strong EPA, the challenges of regulation, and how today's war on science is undermining the scientific foundation upon which the agency's legitimacy rests.
