He describes his rise from working in the steel mills of Chicago, to Broadway, where he appeared in Golden Boy, All My Sons, and A Streetcar Named Desire, and his film roles and awards. As Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire he won an Oscar, and his screen career included movies such as Kiss of Death, On the Waterfront and Patton. On television he starred as detective Mike Stone in The Streets of San Francisco, and he won an Emmy for Fatal Vision. Malden's memoir covers a half-century of American entertainment.
