How can 'binge drinking' be explained and understood? Is alcohol consumption related to the particular cultural characteristics of some European countries? Should heavy drinking cultures be seen as a mainstream youth phenomenon or as marginal - and is this different in different countries? Notă biografică

Margaretha JÃ¤rvinen is Professor of Sociology at the University of Copenhagen and The Danish National Institute of Social Research (SFI). She has worked within the field of alcohol and drug research for many years and has received research grants for alcohol research in both Finland and Denmark. She is the author of 6 books and editor of 11 anthologies. Robin Room is Professor of Sociology at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
