English summary: While literary ballads has constituted a vital area of scholarly research in German studies for decades, there has been a gap in the representation of the literary ballad in the scholarly literature on ballad theory and analysis since 1980. On account of their atypical blend of lyric, epic and drama, the literary ballad represents a problematic field in German literary history. They can be understood as a site for negotiation, given their chimerical composition, possessing poetical as well as semiotic-linguistic possibilities for the representation of the unrepresentable in the motives of the fantastic. The present study is based on the development of an exemplary model for systemic and rigorous literary analysis of literary ballads and combines these results, within the framework of analysis of the selected texts composed between 1770 and 1800 with the ballad texts composed between 1770 and 1800, with the evidence of the literary origins of the fantastic in the genesis of the literary ballad. German description: Wahrend die Kunstballade im Deutschunterricht seit Jahrzehnten einen unverzichtbaren Themenschwerpunkt darstellt, findet sich in der literaturwissenschaftlichen Balladentheorie und -analyse seit 1980 eine zentrale Forschungslucke. Wegen ihrer ungewohnlichen Mischung aus Lyrik, Epik und Drama stellt die Kunstballade in der deutschen Literaturgeschichte einen 'Problemfall' dar. Sie lasst sich als ein fruhes Experimentierfeld begreifen, in dem erstmals - in Form einer ambivalenten Gattungshybriditat - poetologische wie semiotisch-sprachliche Moglichkeiten fur die Darstellung des Nichtdarstellbaren im Motivkomplex des Phantastischen verhandelt werden. Die vorliegende Studie leistet die Entwicklung eines exemplarischen Modells fur eine methodisch strukturierte literaturwissenschaftliche Balladenanalyse und kombiniert diese Ergebnisse - im Rahmen der Analyse ausgewahlter Balladentexte zwischen 1770 und 1800 - mit dem Nachweis eines literarischen Ursprungs der Phantastik in der Genese der Kunstballade.
