Basic Design of a Carbon Disulphide Production Plant

Autor Paul Stanford Kupakuwana
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 20 aug 2012
Carbon Disulphide is used mainly in the rayon industry and as a precursor for fungicides, metal ores treatment and rubber chemicals. This book involves the design of a continuously operating plant to produce 80000 tonnes per year of Carbon Disulphide from natural gas and sulphur feed stocks. Basic chemical engineering principles are used. This includes a mass and energy balance; a process flow diagram for the complete process showing all major items of equipment; a piping and instrumentation diagram for the absorber/stripper section starting from the stabiliser feed drum including the two towers and associated equipment. The design shows the method of equipment protection from overpressure or excessive heat. The likely impact of power; cooling water; exchanger tube; and pump failure is reviewed. The Carbon Disulphide is produced according to international standards applicable to the industrial grade. The product is packed and transported according to accepted international safety regulations. This book targets the needs of individuals engaged in process engineering design. It will appeal to even the most analytical thinkers in chemical engineering including students.
