Cooking on the Piste

en Limba Engleză Paperback
A Ski Chalet Cookbook. Full of easy recipes for groups of hungry skiers. Ideal for self-catering ski holidays for families and large groups. Plenty of money-saving recipes to get the most from your holiday funds. It tells the story of one family and their purchase of a new Ski Chalet in the French Alps "off the plan..". The location of the proposed ski chalet was only an alpine meadow full of wild flowers when James McBride, the author saw it in the late Spring of 1989. The story of his stormy relationship with the developer Max Bochaton "Zees means Pussycat en Anglais," reveals both exasperation, humour and affection, until finally there is grief as Max comes to a premature end. The book is dedicated to the memory of Max Bochaton. He was "an incorrigible rogue" who was always upsetting the local residents of the scenic Vallee d'Abondance in Haute-Savoie, but at his funeral there was not a dry eye in the house. He was sorely missed - not least by the local Gendarmes... who would now have to devote their attention to stopping other errant motorists on the mountain roads. Max was a brilliant car-driver (early Paris-Dakar Rally entrant etc) and on those dangerous alpine roads he was King. He may have been over the top, but he never went over the edge...

Notă biografică

James McBride - born in Chester, UK, the oldest of four sons. Always wanted to fly aeroplanes for a living since he was a little boy. On leaving school he worked as a Nurse, then had a career change in his twenties. Joined the Royal Navy to fly jets and flew the Harrier and Helicopters before 'going civil' in the late 80's. He has been an airline Training Captain for many years and has written a book on flying called The Flightdeck Survival Manual - "How to survive a career flying aeroplanes for a living". It is available on Amazon.co.uk. He was the owner of Chalet Louis in the French Alps for 10 years, from 1990 to 2000. He is married with two children (Hannah & Lawrence) plus three dogs, currently living in Athens, Greece. Hobbies include; Cooking, Skiing, Watersports, Sailing, Diving and Motorcycling. Mark Chetham - Mark Is from Chorlton in Manchester, he actually is, before it became trendy to claim so. As a young teenager in the 70's he would ask for curry instead of Sausages, or pizza instead of pie. His love of good, tasty food spans global cuisines, Asian, Ottoman, Greek, classic French, Iberian, rural English and Central European amongst his favourites. He values good food, fine wine and great friendships. Always keen to share his enthusiasm for the perfect meal he found a kindred spirit in a neighbour and a pal, James. Another joint passion was for skiing, and so one night in the idyll of the Haute Savoie, after a hard days skiing and a heady mix of wine, kirsch, Raclette cheese and quite probably more wine, they hatched the idea of sharing some of their favourite Alpine recipe ideas with friends, family and beyond.
