For Jim Martin, linguistics must make a difference in addressing social issues and themes while demonstrating rigour in methodology. This volume illustrates the ways his particular take on systemic functional linguistics works, in discourse semantics, literacy, attitudinal expression and inter-modality, also revealing the original manner in which analyses are pursued.
Throughout his professional life spanning decades, Jim Martin has been a pioneering force for bridging the connections between linguistics and society. This collection represents a much deserved tribute to Jim on the occasion of his seventieth birthday.
